2016 Ultimate Kenya – not long now

0008 SunsetEXCITEMENT IS BUILDING –

I haven’t gone yet – don’t get too excited about the photo. I just thought that it would be a good start.  At the time of this post there are only 3 days to go; well, 3 days at work and then Thursday when I fly out at 9.45pm.

I am a person of lists and this jaunt is no different.  I have compiled 3 of the buggers – one for checked baggage; 1 for carry on and 1 for my bag containing passports etc.

Everything is done, everything is packed; I have rearranged my camera gear (Natgeo would be proud) and got my carry on down to 7.3kgs – (surely they will not haul me away for 300gr?) anyway if they do I’ll just rearrange again at the check in counter.  My checked bag now weighs 20kg (I am allowed 30kg) so still have some spare weight there.

Just a word of warning – one thing you shouldn’t do is check the Emirates (or any other airline for that matter) FB page and read all the crabby complaints about baggage, meals etc.  Don’t get me wrong, some of these people most probably do have a legitimate reason to complain, and on the other hand I am sure that some people complain just for the sake of it – it’s just that it doesn’t fill you with loads of confidence in Emirates until you realise that they transport millions of people every year.  On the positive side – there are a lot of comments on excellent service and food.  I am a pretty easy going traveller.  Give me my window seat, my camera, my journal and a screen that shows me the flight path and I am as happy as the proverbial pig in mud!

Anyway this is where we stand at the moment – this time next week I will be up to my armpits in wild animals!
