ST HELENS – time to shop in the snow
Sunday – after the long flights and carry on yesterday I am awake after 13 hours sleep – so much for an early start! Kylie tells me that she checked earlier to see if I hadn’t gone to the big winter snowfall in the sky – but no – everything is OK and I am up and rearing to go. The view out the front is this on the left – ah so pretty.
It has snowed overnight – I am so excited but Kylie is not fussed – this has been going on for 4 weeks she tells me. Nevermind nothing is going to dampen my spirits. After a brekky of muffins with vegemite (it travels everywhere) and some real coffee with a dash of Amaretto syrup we head outside for the shopping spree. We have to get some snow pants for the holiday and some other provisions.
It is snowing as we drive along – these are a couple of photos taken off the movie – I am not too sure if I would want to drive in this but Kylie is doing a good job.
When we arrive at Fred Meyer – I want Kylie to take my photo catching the snow flakes but she says later, later and continues walking. I am devastated. We cannot find any pants so we come away with some bits and pieces for the trip and as the snow is not too bad we decide to go up the Cornelius Pass to REI at the Streets of Tanasbourne. As we arrive at the pass the snow turns to rain – still it is OK to drive.
Parking the car under cover we head to REI and are lucky enough to find some pants on special. We also have a look around at ACTS Department Store and then it is time for lunch.
Kylie suggests Sharis Cafe & Pies as apparently the food is good. It is a cold day so something nice and warm for my tummy is definitely on the cards. We start with hot coffee and then order a starter of Onion Rings – lordy there is a lot there. For me this is followed by a scrumptious New York Cut steak with mashed potatoes and more onion rings. Apparently my hunger was so immense that I did not take any photos of this feast – I was too busy eating – definitely FAKER material. The waitress asks if we want dessert but I am stuffed to the gills – but then again the lemon meringue pie doesn’t look half bad. You will be pleased to know that I resist. Time to head back home as we still have to pack for Yellowstone. We fly out from Portland to Bozeman tomorrow morning. Can’t wait for all that snow!
Highlight of the day – dancing with the snowflakes!
