SUNDAY – last day in Rhodes.
Today I have organised a boat tour to Lindos. The schedule is as follows – make my way to Mandraki Harbour – get on the boat at 9am and sail along the east coast of the island to Lindos passing many popular bays and beaches. We will arrive in Lindos around 11am and have free time to explore the Acropolis or have a swim – departing 2.45pm. We stop in Tsambika or Stegna Bay for a quick swim off the boat and return to Rhodes around 5pm – how exciting – so let’s go.
An early breakfast – I have my swimmers, sunscreen, cameras etc and get to the dock only to be told that that the tour has been cancelled because there was not enough people.
Above is the boat I was supposed to be on as I waffled around on the sea. To say I am totally pi**ed off is an understatement. How good would it have been on such a sunny day, especially diving into the Aegean? Every time I think about this I get angry.
I huff back to the hotel and ask the young lass if any messages had been left for me – she says no but she will call the tour group to try and find out what is going on. The tour group knows of no tour cancellations – 2 days in Rhodes – 2 tour cancellations – but I can go snorkelling if I want to. No thanks I want to laze on a boat. Not happy Jan! I decide to head back down the hill to wander the newer part of the town – I discover a lovely park
You can see the Palace in the background. The streets are not very busy – some of the shops are open so I decide to see what’s on offer. I buy a nice leather bag and some postcards – I am the last of the big spenders.
Back to the hotel – write out the postcards and decide to spend some time by the pool – horror of horrors – it was full of oldies and noisy people. So back to my air conditioned haven and start to organise packing for an early start tomorrow. Rhodes to Athens and then Athens to Crete. If the flights are anything like I have experienced so far in Greece I will not arrive in a good mood.
Around 6pm it is time to think about dinner – so back to Napoleon’s – might be a bit more expensive but it is classy, quiet, great service and the food is to die for.
I tell them that tonight is my last night on Rhodes and I have enjoyed coming here for 3 nights. After 2 nights of seafood I decide that tonight will be meat. I start off with wine (of course), followed by Fillet Steak with Pepper Sauce, Lemon Garlic Potatoes and Veggies.
The steak was delicious – so tender and tasty – another complimentary glass of Ouzo to wish me a safe journey. I will miss this place for sure.
Rhodes has been incredible – the history; the harbour; the food and the people are enough to make me want to come back – BUT I will not be booking any tours that’s for sure.
