MYKONOS to NAXOS – more relaxing coming up
Tuesday – today I head for Naxos and 4 days of doing nothing but laze around, with a bit of walking thrown in for good measure. We had a big storm last night but this morning seems to have seen it off and promises to be a nice day which is good seeing I am back on the ferry!
Breakfast of the usual on the lovely area downstairs and then back up to the room to gather my belongings – only a couple of these packing and unpacking days to go – which is sad in a way. I say goodbye to the lovely staff and the blue Aegean as my transfer arrives and I head to the port where chaos abounds.
My ferry is the World Champion Jet – what an interesting name. It is a straight journey for me, no multi island stops today, although I think the ferry carries on after I get off.
After stowing my luggage in the ‘Naxos’ area it’s time to head upstairs to my seat. This time I am in the Silver Section – Seat 25B – a window seat so that’s great. As I sit here and look out the window, I wish that I had Homer’s Odyssey and The Iliad on my ipad. Still I can imagine Odysseus sailing these waters – imagination in overdrive.
The journey has been going for about an hour and a bit when it is announced ‘we are coming into Naxos it is time to reclaim your luggage and get ready to disembark’ – but sheer panic has set in as mine and a few other passenger’s bags are not where we left them. The staff is less than helpful so we race up and down the sections trying to find our bags. With about 2 minutes to go before the ferry leaves we spy them hidden away under other luggage so we grab them and high tail it down the ramp to dry land with the staff giving us filthy looks and yelling ‘hurry up’. Some welcome to Naxos, I could do with a drink!
My transfer to the Naxos Resort Beach Hotel is waiting so luggage in car and off we go. It is only about a 10 minute drive to the hotel – sorry – Resort – it looks really nice and it is in a quiet spot right on the beach at Agios Georgios or St Georges Beach. There will be some exploring to do and maybe even more swimming.
The foyer is lovely but as I am early my room is not ready of course so I plonk myself down in one of the welcoming lounges and read my itinerary and wait.
I think I may have nodded off once or twice but finally I am checked in and I can head to my room – 325.
I have to walk up 3 flights of stairs – there are no lifts – a lovely room, a bit small but this walking up stairs is going to be a pain. The view is nice but nothing special –
After unpacking, I decide to stay here for the rest of the day and maybe venture out at dinner to see what is around. As I am here for a few days there is no great rush to venture forth – that can wait until tomorrow.
