2013 Autumn Leaves on the East Coast – Countdown

THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN!

Don’t jump to conclusions – the photo on the left is not mine so you haven’t missed anything.  In reality the countdown began nearly 12 months ago when the Travelling Trio decided this will be our next Great Road Trip.

The itinerary has been decided – hotels and cars have been booked – all systems are go.

Autumn on the east coast of the USA including New England – spread over four weeks it is as follows :

Saturday 12th October – Sydney to New York flying Qantas of course.

Meeting up with K&T at JFK, NY overnight then catching the train to Philadelphia to say hello to the Liberty Bell.

Pick up a hire car and drive to Valley Forge to soak up the history of George Washington and his troops fighting for freedom in the War of Independence.

Next stop Lancaster in Amish country where we will stay on the Fulton Steamboat.

Washington DC – on the trail of Gibbs and the original NCIS not to mention Arlington and the White House.

Another hire car for the drive to Gettysburg.  Scene of the cataclysmic battle of the Civil War where 50,000 men lost their lives.

Niagara Falls – well, that says it all.

Cooperstown where Tyler will be excited to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame.  Kylie and I will head off for Ostego Lake and the Chocolate Factory.

Onto Portsmouth and Portland Maine and all those interesting lighthouses – not to mention lobster and seafood meals!

Boston – one if by land two if by sea!  The midnight ride of Paul Revere.

Salem – witches and spooky carry ons. oooooooooooooooooo

Cape Cod – dining at Spanky’s Clam Shack and Seaside Saloon.  Don’t you just love the name? Maybe a cruise around Hyannis Harbour and see the Kennedy complex.

Boston for Halloween on the 31st October – trick or treat? You will have to stay tuned to see if we dress up!

Newport Rhode Island – home of the rich and famous

Back to New York by train – discovering all that we can about the Big Apple

Friday 8th November – back home.

So there you have it. Exciting – you betcha!
