2016 Ultimate Kenya – Day 3

THE DAY BEFORE – relaxing, what else?

The WindsorSaturday – What a fantastic night’s sleep but unfortunately I am awake at 6.30am – fortunately I wake to the sounds of NOTHING except an occasional golfer, his caddy and some distant birdsong!  12 hours of pure slumber – this sure is a great way to start a holiday.  Shower and get ready for the day, the plan – to take things really slow – first up breakfast.

I am welcomed by the dining staff who asks if I would like to sit outside on the terrace overlooking the course or inside.  The answer of course is outside – it is such a beautiful day and once seated the coffee / tea waiter arrives – his name is Edward and he is very attentive to the supply and levels of coffee in the cup.  Freshly brewed from their own coffee plantation it is strong but delicious.  OK – time to eat.

BreakfastSurveying the food on offer and what a variety of treats.

All types of cereals but I decide on some Cornflakes  (haven’t had them for ages) with freshly cut pineapple, paw paw and watermelon with just a touch of milk. How delicious does that sound eh?

Accompanied by a mango and carrot smoothie the first course is slowly devoured as I enjoy the view along with more coffee from Edward.

BreakfastNext course, anything you want.  I decide on some bacon and potato bake, grilled tomato, sausage, potatoes, cheese and strawberries accompanied by toast and Vegemite, (that comes everywhere with me) and of course another wonderful smoothie with more coffee.  I am stuffed to the gills but I just sit (for about 2 hours) and enjoy everything.

It is during this time that the lady from yesterday’s jaunt from the airport joins me.  We sit and chat for a while, enjoying more coffee and the view and then decide to go for a walk and see what photos are on offer.  There is a walking track but after the rain of the past days (which we have been lucky to have missed) it has become rather muddy which makes it slippery and uneven in parts.  Deciding to give it a miss because I would be the fool who would fall over and break a leg for sure, time to head back towards the club for a drink but first up some photos of the fairway and surrounds.

The WindsorThe WindsorThe day is warming up so of course, time to head for the bar where a Pina Colada sounds wonderful and sitting there enjoying the surrounds we are joined with our companion from yesterday.  It is at this stage as we waffle on I decide that some people should not be allowed to go past their front gate.  I will not mention names but my airport partner tells us that she is from the North Shore (of course) and flew First Class with Emirates because her husband wanted her to be safe (stunned look on my face).  I ask ‘did he think that us poor old economy people would mug you?’, and the other lady asks ‘if the plane crashes doesn’t first class crash?’  Goes over like a lead balloon and I shall say no more on.  Oh well – moving on we decide to meet for dinner – at the same place where we are now.

Margarita PizzaSome more down time in my room and then back outside for dinner.  The area is near the pool – would have been great to go for a swim but too many kids – time for another drink. A Margarita, which seems only appropriate as we have ordered Margarita pizzas.

They take ages to arrive – still waiting for my drink – finally am able to enjoy both.  It is so nice sitting in the cool – no mozzies surprisingly.

We decide to have an early night as the big safari starts tomorrow and we have to be up early.   Full tummy and looking forward to another fabulous quiet night.
