2017 Snow & Lights – Day 18 – Part 2

Main LodgeAfter my little excursion into the wilds of Macro, a nice warm cuppa in front of my fire is the thing to do.  Getting back to the Chalet and taking off my jacket, thermals, gloves, hat and boots is not an easy task.

I think it took more effort than plodding through the snow but finally I am comfortable and it is just great to sit and relax – I will download the photos later.  So for about an hour I sit but you know me, I can’t keep still for too long, back on goes the gear and I am out and about again.

The photo above is the Main Lodge and the verandah you see is where Wolfgang has all his camera equipment to capture the Dancing Ladies.  Still photography, time lapse, you name it – he does it.  I asked him about the amount of photos he takes for time lapse – the camera is going for hours.  Obviously he does not stand out there, he has a large battery to keep things going and the camera seems to cope with the freezing temps.  Did I tell you that you can check out his photography on his FB page ‘Northern Lights Resort & Spa’?  To look at his photography makes me pea green with envy – it is incredible.

K&T arrive back from their little journey and have brought me back some Bear Claws and Maple with Pecan Danishes  from Tim Hortons.  Exactly what I need.

Tims Bear ClawsTims Maple Pecan DanishYou can tell just by looking at the photos they are definitely low calorie. K&T have had a good drive around Whitehorse and have taken some photos of the frozen river.

WhitehorseWhitehorseIt seems that all of us have had a very enjoyable and productive day so far.

After devouring my pastries, and having some more rest downloading my photos, later in the afternoon there is a little bit of noise and barking out the front of my chalet.  Some huskies have come to say hello to Wolfgang so of course a grab for the camera and photos out the window.  They have little boots on to protect their tootsies from the cold – how cute is that?

HuskiesHuskiesThey stay for about half an hour and then mush away back home.

Nearly time for our last dinner so I hike it over to the Lodge where we all sit in front of the fire and say how sad we are to leave.  The other 3 people have one more day to go – we also hope that The Ladies will dance big time for us tonight.

The menu for tonight starts with the Appetizer of Baked Mushroom with Goat Cheese & Herbs; Main is Hackbraten (German style Beef Meatloaf) with Potatoes Tagliatelle & Broccoli.  To be finished with Dessert – Sunshine Coupe.  What a great way to end the gastronomical delights.

Aurora Forecast is good and the Quote of the Day is ‘Two wrongs don’t make a right; but they make a good excuse!’  Another bit of useless information – do you know that there are 70,000 moose in the Yukon? Twice as many moose as people!

After dinner it is time to prepare our cameras and ourselves for hopefully a magnificent display of Lights.

Starry SkyStarry SkyHere is the sky over our chalets?  How do you like them stars eh?  Wouldn’t it be great to just walk outside every clear night and see that?  Imagine the photography if you lived here. Well, you don’t have to imagine – just check out Wolfgang’s FB page.  You will have to open the photos to appreciate the starry sky.

With the usual early showing starting around 10.30pm I try my hand at some time lapse but the lights are not that spectacular and it doesn’t turn out all that good. I hope that the 1am showing will be a fitting end to our stay.

Inside having a nap I am woken by a knock on the door – it is Wolfgang – The Ladies are back.  I am half asleep but with the speed of light I am fully clothed and hurtling out the door with camera and tripod.  OMG – this is wonderful.  I won’t say any more – just look at the photos – –

I am much beholden to The Ladies who sure put on a spectacle for our last night.  I can sleep well for what is left of the night knowing that I can cross off another one from my Bucket List.

Yes, the idiots returned to stand in the photos and yes, I was sorely tempted to yell at them, but the wonderment of The Ladies seemed to calm me and also make me realise that it is our last night so why cause a kafuffle.   I can  appreciate that I am actually here and nothing is going to spoil it for me.
