2019 Greek Odyssey – Day 27 & Day 28

NAXOS – two days for the price of one

DAY 27 – 10th.  Thursday – a peek out of the window and bright blue skies herald another lovely day.  After breakfast I will suss out Agios Georgios (St George) beach – maybe take a swim – so it’s back down the stairs for another scrumptious breakfast then back up the stairs to grab cameras etc and I am on my way.

I walk through the grounds of the hotel to reach the beach – and it is just about deserted. It is only around 10am so maybe people are still getting organised or maybe they are hungover from last night’s activities.

It is a nice beach – but the water is a bit cool for me so no swim today – well at least not at the beach.

Time to go back down into the town and investigate some shops, not that I need to buy anything but you never know what you may find in the End of Season sales.  I walk back up through the streets instead of going through the hotel – the buildings are mostly whitewashed and every now and again there is a splash of colour – this looks striking – a lovely bougainvillea, well it looks like it, what a great combination.

Continuing until I reach the square again – time to do some window shopping.  I spy a nice pair of loose trousers which look very elegant on the window model but when I try them on – they look disgraceful.  Maybe it is because I do not have the anorexic figure on which they are displayed.  Never mind I will continue.  Maybe a nice shirt – no. Maybe a nice flowing dress – no.  Back to the harbour to regain some good feelings.

People are starting to congregate for their morning coffee – there are loads of little cafes along here – but I bypass all of this and continue to the harbour.

The ferries are busy – but it is the little fishing boats that take my interest.

I think they are fascinating.  They look typically greek – is there such a thing? Realistically they could come from anywhere but they look like they belong here.

Of course there are the views of the Portara Gateway – but we have been there and done that so after some more sitting by the water it is time to head back – which means looking in more shops – buying some lovely fridge magnets, a carry bag and a jacket.

Looks like I had better luck leaving than arriving.  On the left is the walkway back through Naxos.  Cars are not allowed down here except if they are doing deliveries.  They are the tiniest little trucks.

Back up the hill near the bakery but after pigging out yesterday I give it a miss although it does still smell delicious.

Walking down another undiscovered street I spy another bakery – this time I opt for a nice freshly baked roll with cheese and salad. That in itself is a huge meal.

The day is heating up – next stop a small convenience store about 2 minutes from the hotel  – a lime Calippo joins the party fest which just goes to show that I will take a photo of anything without any encouragement whatsoever.

It is about noon – so looks like another day of relaxing by the pool – or staying in my air conditioned room –

The roll was filling – so much so that I think maybe even have a sleep and venture out late in the afternoon –

Day 28 – 11th. Friday – NOTHING BUT LAZE.  Tomorrow I head back to Athens and there are still a few things to see and do when I get there so I am resting up and sorting stuff and working out what I still have to buy to take home.
